About

Why we built RatingSentinel.

Many managers read their reviews and respond to them. What is hard is seeing them as a whole — how they change over time, topic by topic, and in what proportion. The same complaint three months apart reads as two problems, and praise rarely gets counted at all. We built RatingSentinel to count every topic customers raise, good and bad, in a form that is quick to read, easy to hand to whoever can act on it, and backed by evidence when a pattern is worth questioning.

Nick Reinig

Founder

Nick spent seven years as a data analyst and data specialist at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, working on large, inconsistent real-world datasets where the results had to hold up to outside scrutiny. That work shaped how RatingSentinel is built: every score traces back to the specific reviews behind it.

He holds a Master's in Data Analytics from Georgia Tech, with coursework across statistics, simulation, machine learning, reinforcement learning and AI. His capstone built a transformer-based anomaly detection model for an aluminum manufacturer, surfacing irregularities in production data that fixed thresholds missed — structurally the same problem RatingSentinel solves, applied to review corpora rather than factory sensors. Related work in natural language processing and large language models underpins the aspect-level sentiment analysis the platform runs today.

Nick builds, operates and maintains the RatingSentinel platform.

Doug Fowler

Founding Advisor

Doug's real estate brokerage career spanned four decades, during which he supervised more than 14,000 transactions across a multi-office firm whose flagship location ranked among the nation's top by revenue—an environment where compliance had to hold up consistently at every site. He delivered regulatory and ethics training to hundreds of professionals and co-owned a real-estate education company that produced California Department of Real Estate–approved foreclosure and regulatory courses.

He also served on a Professional Standards Committee adjudicating ethics cases, work that required impartial evidence review and disciplined documentation—methods that directly inform how RatingSentinel documents the evidence behind a score.

Doug later built a proprietary third-party survey platform used by multiple companies to measure client experience, giving him firsthand insight into how feedback is collected, interpreted, and where it can fail.

Outside his professional work, Doug has served on the boards of three nonprofits, including as Board President of Diabetes Youth Families.

Doug originated the concept behind RatingSentinel and advises the project in a limited, non-operational capacity on industry standards, compliance and go-to-market.

Who operates RatingSentinel

RatingSentinel is in development and has not launched yet. It is operated by Nick Reinig as an individual in Washington State, with plans to incorporate before the product goes live.
